The Code of Conduct Office supports a safe and productive learning environment for the community, establishes college policies that define behavioral standards for all students, and operates a fair hearing process. In doing so, our mission is to guide student learning on appropriate behavior, civility, and ethical decision making. Our students are viewed as adults who are responsible for making decisions that support their learning and the learning environment of others.


We envision a disciplined community of learners where students govern themselves in a manner that ensures the safety and integrity of the college environment. We also envision a knowledgeable community of learners where students are aware of their rights and responsibilities as defined in the Code of Student Conduct.

Statement of Ethical Practice

Student conduct administrators at Moraine Valley Community College believe in and practice the ethical standards prescribed by the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA). In accordance with the ASCA Ethical Principles and Standards of Conduct, Moraine Valley staff will:

  • Support the college’s mission and goals by balancing the needs of students with the obligations of the college;
  • Adhere to the terms and conditions of employment;
  • Respect and acknowledge the law;
  • Protect human rights and promote diversity;
  • Treat students impartially as individuals;
  • Develop rules, procedures and standards that protect students’ legal rights;
  • Provide for the educational and personal growth of students;
  • Avoid conflicts of interest;
  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of student information;
  • Assure information provided to community members is accurate;
  • Provide only appropriate information about a student’s conduct when requested;
  • Refer students to appropriate resources;
  • Supervise staff and students responsibly; and
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities.
