To the Moraine Valley Community

October 20, 2023

The top priority of the Moraine Valley Police Department is to foster and promote a safe environment for all students, faculty, staff, and community members while they are on campus. Moraine Valley police officers are on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have years of experience in police work and are properly equipped and trained to maintain a safe and welcoming campus.

Anyone who feels unsafe while on campus should contact the Police Department immediately. We are here to help. Feel free to contact us in the following ways:

  • The red phones located in most hallways
  • The emergency blue poles located in most parking lots and the quad area
  • Dial 5555 from any campus telephone
  • Dial 708-974-5555 from a cell phone or off-campus telephone
  • If an immediate threat exists, please dial 911. Another police department will answer the call, and they will transfer you to the Moraine Valley Dispatch Center.

As Chief of Police at Moraine Valley, we are vigilant about safety. At this time of understandable tension and unease, we have increased staffing levels to support our campus community. We are in regular communication with Illinois State Police and other public safety agencies to assess any potential concerns, and we are coordinating with other departments to share information.

As of now, we have no incidents or reports of violence or threats on campus. That said, if you learn of a threat, feel unsafe, or need to report an emergency, immediately call the Police Department or contact me with your concerns at 708-974-5555.

Sincerely,

Pat Treacy
Chief of Police

The Moraine Valley Police Department (MVPD) ensures the safety and well-being of all individuals on the campus and provides protection for all college buildings, facilities and property. It is the goal of the MVPD to keep students, faculty and visitors safe and informed about how to protect themselves.

Campus safety and security is coordinated by the MVPD, a professional state-level police department. Illinois state law grants that members of the MVPD are conservators of the peace and possess the same powers of arrest and enforcement as those given to other state, county and local municipal police officers.

MVPD police officers are fully trained and commissioned and have met the requirements as mandated and regulated by the Illinois Compiled Statutes and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

On campus, the officers of the MVPD enforce all rules, regulations and laws, both of the state and of the college community including criminal and traffic laws as well as those regulating the use of alcoholic beverages, the use of controlled substances and weapons violations. They also work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in the surrounding communities, assisting with incidents that may affect the college.

All potential criminal activity, medical emergencies or similar situations should be reported immediately to the MVPD Communications Center by dialing ext. 5555 on any campus telephone, by picking up any of the red emergency telephones located throughout the campus buildings, or by using any of the blue emergency telephones located in each to the college's parking lots. Once a call is received, an officer is immediately dispatched to the site.

No matter how effective the college's law enforcement procedures may be, the primary responsibility for safety and security falls upon each and every one of us. No police force or set of rules and regulations can be effective unless the individual exercises reasonable caution and awareness. Safety and security is everyone's responsibility. The officers and staff of the MVPD stand ready and willing to serve the college community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
